If you live in Australasia and are into Christian music, there is no doubt you will have heard of Roma Waterman. As one of Australia's foremost Christian artists, Roma has been at the forefront of it's music for almost 20 years. (She likes to add here that she was VERY young when she started!)
For over five years, Roma Waterman has been transitioning from a hard touring pop artist to an author of works on divinely inspired artistic creativity and a writer of new songs of worship. Her new album, Release The Sound can be best described as worship music with a prophetic edge. Her news songs, both congregational and intimate, have been produced by Aussie legend Henry Seeley to reflect a fresh, new sound. The songs on Release The Sound have mostly been written in times of spontaneous corporate and private worship. The anthemic Hallelujah, He’s Alive is a co-write and duet with USA worship leader/songwriter Dave Fitzgerald, who also uses it to lead worship around the world.
After being told she may never sing or tour again after suffering fibromyalgia, she had an amazing encounter with God that set her in a new direction in pursuing worship and the prophetic through her music. Now, totally healed Roma travels the globe, speaking, singing and running workshops on the prophetic arts, songwriting and vocal technique.
She is no stranger to the recording studio, having recorded 7 albums over the span of her career. Most notably, 'People change' and 'No ordinary life' which garnered several top ten radio hits, including the infamous 'I was Carried'. 'More than icecream', 'lifting me up' and 'No ordinary life'. Adding to her passion for writing she has authored two books - the International best seller 'The Handbook for Working Singers' and the newly released 'The God Artist - the quest for supernatural creative influence'. This has led to receiving many awards, including The Gospel Music Associations Honour award for outstanding contribution to Christian music.
Her ministry and career are unique in that her involvement in the arts is varied, from being a minister in music, to speaking, being a session vocalist for many television shows, a vocal coach (x-factor show, and various well known solo artists) and songwriter. She is also the founder of the much loved Melbourne Gospel Choir.
Her greatest passion however, is moving in the prophetic. It is common for her to sing a spontaneous song unrehearsed in the middle of a ministry or performance time, and this has become what she is most known for. Many are touched by these moments as she is able to sing with great accuracy and foresight.
Suprisingly, her favourite place is not the platform, but rather her music room, behind the piano, writing. "This is where I feel closest to God", Roma says. "I feel like downloads from Heaven come in that quiet place. I feel His beckoning to do it more, and it is the place I feel the most comfrotable. My greatest hope is that as I mature and grow, my music reflects those moments so that others can experience that sweet presence of God as they listen".
